Investigation about Copyright

1)What is a copyright?
Copyright is used to protect things you create and publish. it will be mainly introduced to creative and artistic work. The reason why it’s protected is because it prohibits people from being able to copy your work and to use it for their own profitable methods. It prohibits the copy of any protected material. (Art, music, drama, literature, layouts, recordings, broadcasts etc.) You can still copy it, but if you use it and claim it’s yours, then copyright will come into action, and you might even be taken to court.
2)What is the purpose of a copyright?
The purpose of copyright is simply to protect what was published by you, and not what was plagiarised and then re-published by some not loyal person.
3) Can images have a copyright? Explain your answer.
Obviously, if they wouldn’t, certain artistic images, or very good photographic pictures could be claimed theirs, which would be very unfortunate for the owners. Companies would have same logos. Identity stealing would be another unfortunate example, using false personal documentation.
4) Are there any images that do not have a copyright? Explain.
Certain images are purposely displayed for copying, that’s why they don’t have copyright laws. These pictures are mainly for educational purposes, and not any commercial/profitable methods.
5) Search for 2 websites where that have free use images. Write the URL and we will compile a list for class use.
www.copyright-free-pictures.org.uk
www.pics4learning.com
6) What is the easiest way to avoid problems with copyright infringements?
Simply not to copy material subjected to copyright, and if you do, make sure you say it’s not yours. If you prefer, you can ask permission.

My Excel Chart 5/12/07
